Well, I Love a Rainy Night
I have loved the beautiful weather we've had. I even like the 90 degree days. Lying on the deck after dark in the moonlight and not being cold is one of my favorite things. But I also love it when it rains. I love watching the clouds roll in and the wind pick up speed. I don't like the rain because it waters my flowers. I don't ever think of my flowers, which is why they don't last very long. And I don't love the rain because it makes our grass greener. We have chemicals for that. Lol. I love the rain because it's like getting a "Go To Jail" card near the end of a Monopoly game when you're losing and everywhere you land could be your last turn. In jail, you don't have to worry about taking a turn or landing on Boarwalk with a hotel. It's a nice little break in a cut throat game. When it rains, I can turn on the TV and sit on the couch without feeling guilty. The phone rings less. Practices and games get cancelled, which to parents are secretly like snow days are to kids. If it's a crazy scheduled week and we see some dark clouds, we are praying for a downpour that lasts more than ten minutes. Am I right, moms??? You don't have to answer that out loud. Rain sort of breaks up an otherwise overscheduled day. It makes me put my plans aside and be flexible. It makes me stop running in circles and stare out the window. Rain is a great metaphor for the down turns in life. I don't welcome bad things in life like I welcome the rain, but they do slow me down. They force me to be flexible and they cause me to stop running in circles and look out the window. And sometimes, I even see a rainbow.
