I finally watched "Julie and Julia" last night. I was slightly disappointed at the end, but I enjoyed watching Julie's character go through the ups and downs of being a writer. As far as her goal to cook through the entire Julia Child Recipe book in a year, I didn't relate at all! In my first attempt at Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup I didn't add water, my taco shells caught on fire once last year and I forgot about a pan of sweet potatos in my second oven from Thanksgiving until Christmas when I preheated the oven for another pan of sweet potatos. (They still smelled good.) I thought I wasn't going to like the movie when they started it with cooking, but I became fully involved once Julie started writing her blog. I related with not having any idea who actually reads the blog and that one of my first blog comments was from my mom. And I was thrilled when her blog became popular and she had 64 voice mail messages from publishers and agents; the same people every writer grovels, begs and spends hours, days and weeks trying to write the perfect querry letter. The thing that really got me was that Julie's blog was very specific. She wrote about her life, but it was all through her cooking experience. I'm not going to cook, but I am going to try to come up with a more specific theme for Controlled Chaos.
