J.B. had a work conference in Las Vegas last week and I decided to meet up with him there for part of his trip. We don't spent much time together, so even though we didn't have much time or money we thought our relationship was worth the investment and we were right. It was great to spend some time together without the kids and especially without the dogs. I didn't realize how needy they are until I went to bed and listened for a dog to whine to go out because they always wait until we get all snuggled and warm under the covers before they decide they need one more potty break before bed.
We did a little gambling, no drinking and lots of walking. We walked through most of the hotels along the strip as well as the old part of town. We drove down to the Hoover Dam and spent the afternoon site seeing and having lunch and dinner together. I went up to Mount Charleston one day while JB was at his conference. It was nice to get out of the city, but I didn't like that there was no one to share the amazing views with. It was beautiful, but lonely. I have a friend who is an empty nester for the first time this year. It makes me think about how many years we have until then. Andy is a junior and Jenna is right behind him as a sophomore. Johnny still has five years, but I know that will go by fast, so I've already begun to think about what I want to do with JB after our kids leave home. It's weird because I haven't thought about what I want for a long time. There are some little things I want like sleep and money and a few moments at home alone, but I haven't thought beyond those small things, so I started a list of things I want to do. ...I can't find my list, but I think I only had one thing on it, so I can start a new list. I don't remember what my one thing was, but I'm sure I can come up with something. Maybe thinking about what I want will help me get through school, work, my lack of sleep and the last few details I need to do in order to publish my book.
