Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Every day Life

It's been a little longer than usual since my last post.  I'd tell you that I forgot I had a blog, but I'm not sure you'd believe me.  Well, some of you would.  In an earlier post I said I was trying to find a main topic to create my blog around.  I think I've found it.  Since last fall I've been teaching a group with my friend, Ann called Revolutionary Living.  The information we taught was a combination of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) I learned at Woodland Hills with the Bible.   DBT is a method of learning how to think and behave differently through specific skills in order to make better decisions and improve your life and relationships.  It was developed by a psychiatrist for people she was counseling, but the skills work so well it's use is spreading to a wide variety of problems.  My therapist told me the skills are so basic anyone could use them to improve their life.

The methods and skills in DBT have been tested and proven to work.  Ann and I are not going to change a thing as far as the DBT information, but we are working to intertwine the scriptures with the skills, because the basis of these skills is found all over in the Bible.  Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."  That's all we're doing is renewing our mind.  DBT gives us specific skills to help us do that.  Next post I'll give an overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
